Empty it and edit
Take everything out. Sort into keep, donate, repair and store. Be honest about what you wear.
Edit before you buy anything. Containers and dividers are tempting, but they only work for what you keep. Get rid of the extras first and you may find you need far fewer products.
Group like with like
Group by type, then by color or season. When you can see categories, you can find things fast.
Sorting by color within a category is not just pretty. It speeds up outfit planning and makes it obvious when you own six nearly identical black tops.
Zone the space
Put daily items at eye and hip height, occasional items higher and seasonal items highest or lowest.
Put your daily wear where it is easiest to reach and keep rarely worn formalwear toward the edges. Heavy items, such as boots and bags, belong on lower shelves.
Use matching hangers and simple containers
Uniform hangers make a closet look calmer and use space better. Use labeled bins for small items.
Slim velvet hangers save more space than most people expect, and they keep clothing from slipping. They are a small change with a big effect.
Maintain it
A one-in, one-out habit and a seasonal review keep the closet from filling again.
Review the closet at the change of each season. It is the best moment to donate what you did not wear and to replace what wore out.
Edit first, buy second, and design the system around what you actually keep.
