Closet Islands and Seating

The centerpiece of a great closet: a drawer-filled island with a stone top and a place to sit and dress.

An island adds storage, a folding surface and a focal point. Drawers on every side hold folded clothes and accessories, a glass-top case can show watches and jewelry, and a bench end gives you a place to sit and put on shoes.

Islands need room: a good rule is at least 36 to 42 inches of clear aisle around all sides, and more when two people dress at once. We check clearances in the plan before suggesting one, and we offer slimmer peninsulas and benches for tighter spaces.

Questions

Islands & Seating FAQ

How big does the closet need to be for an island?

Plan on a room at least 9 to 10 feet wide to have cabinetry on both walls, an island and comfortable aisles, though smaller peninsulas can work.

What tops do you offer?

Wood, laminate, quartz and marble options; we coordinate with stone suppliers.

Can the island have power?

We can plan outlets for charging and steamers with your electrician.

Can I get a bench instead?

Yes. Benches and ottomans are great in tighter spaces.
